The S.Y.M© practice

Sensate Yoga Move is a form of Yoga that is less focused on perfecting the pose, but rather on learning and sensing from within how the pose works for you and your body. The intention of this Yoga practice is to nourish your nervous system and be more in tune with its natural responses.

By applying the Polyvagal theory (Stephen Porges, PH.D.) to Yoga (Dr Arielle Schwartz) we put the focus on communicating closely with the Body to maintain equilibrium. It has now long been recognized by science that a good vagal tone helps in improving the resilience of the autonomic nervous system. In today's world, it is natural to get stressed out and overwhelmed; but how fast and how well can we navigate life's challenges and re-regulate our internal system is a practice we can learn. It allows us to move through the ebbs and flows that Life surely will bring, without staying stuck in a state of chronic stress/constant high arousal or its opposite frozen, shutdown, depressed state.

The mindful fluid flow of each session aims to be effortless, yet it is challenging, engaging and grounding.

The Asanas are performed not to look perfect but rather to be aligned with your own unique, “felt” sensations. The key is really to let those sensations be your guide throughout the practice. It teaches you to become more fully present and more in tune with your inner experience.

Teaching instructions greatly invite you to adapt them to the way your Body might want to move in this moment.

Here the focus is on creating freedom and space in the body so that you feel comfortable in your own skin, in both movement and stillness.

Very often, discomfort, pain and diseases are the expression of trapped emotional energy in the Body; results of chronic stress and/or unresolved trauma.

There are many ways we can choose to ignore and avoid our uncomfortable emotions, by distracting ourselves in many different manners. From overeating, to working too much, smoking, drugs, alcohol, sex, TV binging, excessive exercising, withdrawal, complaining, gambling, you name it… Anything that will cover what we do not want to see or feel. But just as Sigmund Freud said: “Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways”.

Together, let’s choose to move forward and connect to ourselves and to each other

in truth and authenticity.
